Graduate biologist and PhD
Working with biological substances and their immunological aspects was the main part of my studies at the TU Braunschweig and my doctorate at the Hannover Medical School. As a graduate biologist, through my own scientific work and in combination with my experience in occupational health and safety, I have developed my approach to the assessment of biosubstance work.

Occupational safety officer
For more than a decade, I headed the Biosafety and Occupational Health and Safety staff units at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC). The focus was on molecular biology laboratory and test subject areas. In addition, the technical and administrative areas served as my classroom for practical occupational safety in an international research environment. Risk assessments for biological and chemical hazardous substances, employee training, ASA meetings, hygiene concepts, the implementation of waste inactivation procedures and the organization of occupational health care for 1500 employees were the main focus of my work. I have been trained as an occupational safety specialist in accordance with the criteria of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) and am a recognized auditor of the international occupational safety standard DIN ISO EN45001. Genetic safety expert
Since 2012, I have been responsible for advising, controlling and monitoring genetic engineering safety as a biosafety officer for over 100 genetic engineering facilities at the Max Delbrück Center (MDC) and the Berlin Institute of Health (BIH). During this time, I have assessed almost 1,000 genetic engineering projects and gained experience from around 250 governmental inspections. As a state-recognized genetic engineering expert, I regularly train prospective genetic engineering project managers and biosafety officers.
